Often under-appreciated, yet authentic and sincere, Marjoram Essential Oil strengthens, comforts, and soothes on many levels.

Body: Marjoram brings relaxation in overly tense situations like muscle spasms, hyperactivity of body systems, and inflammation.  Its tranquilizing effects can act as a mild sedative, allowing the release of painful physical sensations.

Mind & Emotions: Marjoram encourages the release of things we've held on to for too long, and satisfaction in the minimal and the simple.  It aids in bringing about the positive attributes of calm, balance, directness, self-assuredness, integrity, courage, confidence, focus, perseverance, restoration, and sincerity.

Research

In this article on PubMed, we see that Marjoram, Lavender, and Clary Sage "may serve as the optimal means for career women to improve their sleep and QOL (Quality of Life)", particularly when diffused together in equal parts.

May be used on a warm compress to ease migraines (6, p. 267).

Marjoram is a very good remedy for insomnia, especially when used, together with lavender, in a warm bath before bedtime… The sedative properties of Marjoram must not be abused, for it can dull the senses and cause drowsiness, and in large amounts is stupefying (9, p. 192).

It is used in treating high blood pressure and heart conditions, as it dilates the arteries, thereby reducing strain on the heart (9, p. 192).

A hot compress of Marjoram over the abdomen will ease menstrual cramps more effectively than anything else I know (9, p. 192).

By its action in lessening both emotional response and physical sensation, Marjoram has the effect of being an anti-aphrodisiac (9, p. 192).

Sprains, bruises, colds, rheumatism, intestinal cramps, menstrual problems, anxiety, asthma, bronchitis, insomnia, circulatory disorders, muscular problems (1, p. 403).

    Internal:

Although the quality of Selah Oils is excellent, it is not advised to take essential oils internally unless under the guidance of a certified physician who is also certified in aromatherapy. We recommend getting internal dosing instructions from a licensed physician as some essential oils are not recommended for oral consumption. This is in no way a reflection on our oil quality, only a matter of safety and caution with respect to how concentrated essential oils are. When used within safe parameters, and under your physician's care, the quality of our essential oils is such that they can be used internally if deemed appropriate.

However, with that said, it is important to remember the extreme concentration of essential oils. "Using essential oils by rubbing them into the skin or via inhalation is in many cases more effective than oral delivery" (Schnaubelt 96).

All cautions listed for individual oils do not include those cautions from ingestion.
